“Ugh, I can still smell it! Smell me, I smell like rotten vegetables, Lower Town produce gone rank and rancid. My hair, my beautiful skin!” Jaejoong bemoaned, nose pressed to the skin of his arm.

His eyes played peek-a-boo through his bangs taking in the large room that was the dining hall. Cold was the word that came to the forefront of his mind; hard and cold conforming to the military parameters of the camp. The large windows seemed to be the room’s only source of light during the day, their high arches embellished with stained glass in the upper portions.

Hanging from the ceiling were three large candelabra’s one for each long table, their candles long since worn down from countless nights of eating and plotting war. Great battles were retold on the grey-stone walls, woven tapestries the only decorations in the bleak decor. He recognized their family crest immediately noting the influence the palace had even in these, barren of all, places.

Clothed only in the robe that had been left for him, Jaejoong sat at one of the large, wooden mess tables. His bare feet figured prominently on its smooth surface, a bowl of fresh grapes within arm’s reach. Changmin sat opposite him, the table’s width an ocean of polished oak between them.

“You’ve had three showers. I really doubt you smell like anything but soap. And no, I’m not smelling you. Are you sure you’re my brother?”

“Half,” Jaejoong corrected, irritation in his voice. “You are my half-brother.”

The sourness of the other man’s face did not escape him as Jaejoong reached for one of the plump, purple globes, popping the grape into his mouth and chewing while they continued to stare at each other.

They looked absolutely nothing alike, Jaejoong thought to himself, and thankfully so. What would people say if he shared a likeness to someone of lower rank, regardless of their relation? No, Changmin looked nothing like him, nor his father that was for certain. But his mother must have been quite beautiful Jaejoong had to admit, the man sitting across from him was quite handsome, dark and tall.

“Half brother,” Changmin finally replied, “and thank the Haze for that. What do you want?”

“What I want is to be back in the Palace, in my own bed being served by…” Jaejoong trailed off as a man, no boy, in guard uniform came walking up to them.

He was younger than both he and Changmin, a boyish look to his face, and pretty. The uniform had been tailored to his small frame, accentuating his slender torso and Jaejoong unconsciously licked his lips. The shininess of his polished buttons drew Jaejoong’s attention like a moth to a flame. His boots clinked softly against the stone floor and he could tell the boy was walking a fine line of his hair being just a little bit too long.

“Why, aren’t you just delectable,” Jaejoong all but purred. His eyes roamed over the boy’s body lingering down his chest, a slight tip of his head to take in the other’s ass. “It seems this place isn’t as dreadful as I thought it was. What’s your name beautiful?”

“Tae … Taemin,” the boy swallowed, his course changing slightly as he veered towards Jaejoong, mesmerized by the older man’s natural draw.

“I really like your hat Taemin, can I try it on? And the buttons on your jacket, very high fashion.” Jaejoong’s fingers trailed along the rounded gold buttons of the younger man’s tunic, across to the embossed ones keeping his breast pocket closed. A slight gasp flitted through the room before he was lifting his hands to remove the hat on Taemin’s head.

“Private Lee!” Changmin barked, making both men jump and the younger grab for his hat, stepping away sufficiently chastised. “You are supposed to be on duty in the message room, so if you are here I am going to assume you have a message for me, or am I wrong and you’re looking for extra duties?”

“Yes Sir! I mean, no Sir. I have a message Sir, from the Palace,” Taemin fished around in his waist pouch until he was able to produce a small folded sheet of paper.

His eyes wandered over to Jaejoong, the older man leaning back in the chair, robe falling open slightly. He winked, a laugh threatening to burst past his lips as the boy’s cheeks turned red and his attention went back to his superior officer.

Changmin took the letter his eyes not missing the royal stamp, and with a sharp warning about being out of quarters after hours dismissed Taemin with a firm word. With their company gone, the letter was heavy in Changmin’s hand as he began to unfold it, eyes skimming the words quickly. He was eager to leave the self-absorbed man who was apparently his relation. There was work to be done and it was not his job to babysit guests, no matter who they were.

“I was just having a little fun.”

Jaejoong’s talking broke his concentration and Changmin looked up, noting the pout on the other man’s lips.

“Fun, do you know what that is? God it’s all so drab and boring here.”

“This is a military camp, not some Sky City socialite party or brothel. It appears that father didn’t trust you to find me, so he sent a message of his own. We are to head back to the palace right away, which means as soon as you put some clothes on.” Changmin set the letter down in the middle of the table, sliding it towards the man on the other side. “I’m assuming you know how to read.”

“Like you’d read it to me if I couldn’t,” Jaejoong mumbled, sticking his tongue out.

He could see Changmin fume as the younger man pushed away from the table, heavy boots clicking across the stone floor.

“I’ll have my men hitch up the horses, and I need to tell the General that I’m leaving. I’ll be back for you in an hour and if you’re not ready I’m taking you to the Embarkation Gate in that robe.”

And with that, Changmin stormed out of the mess hall trying to suppress his anger as he headed towards the command centre.

tsk, tsk, tsk jaejae~ i know he considers himself 'only half-siblings' (though i myself don't believe in that, family is just family) i hope he shows some warmth toward him soon. that or min can just whip him into shape, though the latter is much more interesting *insert evil cackle here*

it's going to be super interesting to see how jae's hard exterior is cracked and removed (hopefully with yunho's love & care^^) and by his new found brother~

i hope you get things under control for maximum stress relief dear!!

Haha. I do really hope that Jae can be less horrible soon, but I also know that it's going to take finding Yunho to push him over the edge.

Thank you! It's starting to get better, and it's almost the holiday season!!
